The Diocese of Srikakulam comprises the Civil District of Srikakulam and the Mandals of
Manyam District and part of Vizianagaram District. It was erected by the Papal Bull “AD
APTIUS FOVENDUM” dated July 1, 1993 of Pope John Paul II. The geographical area of the
diocese is 8524 square kilometers. It was bifurcated from the erstwhile Archdiocese of
Visakhapatnam and erected a separate diocese on the 4th August 1993, with Most Rev.
Addagatla Innayya, as the first Bishop of Srikakulam.
At the retirement of the first Bishop, the Pope appointed Most Rev. Dr. Rayarala Vijayakumar,
PIME as second Bishop of the diocese on 16 July 2019. The diocese has started with 35000
Catholics, 14 parishes, and the cross-of caring to the spiritual, pastoral, social, economical and
educational development of the vast population of the area. With the strenuous efforts
and zeal of Bishops, Priests and religious the task of building up of the Church in Srikakulam
diocese has been speeded up still more and today we have more than 70,000 Catholics, 39
parishes, 75 priests, 115 Sisters and 236 Catechists.
